Feel Dizzy with blurry eyes

Went back to the doc's again today to try and articulate the fact that I feel terrible. Got the usual response - it's all just anxiety come back again in a months time - I'm not going to prescibe Beta blockers cos it's just anxiety.

My question is this - over the last few weeks, I've been feeling slightly dizzy with slightly blurred vision and head pressure (not like I'm gonna fall over or anything but distinct none the less). I've had my eyes checked (OK) and my blood pressure has been normal the last few times I've been to the doc's. Regulars will also know from my other posts that I've had echo, ecg, 24hr ecg, blood tests and chest xray - all OK. Can tension and anxiety as my doc reckons, cause these symptoms ie - pressure behind the eyes, light headedness, blurry vision etc?

Re: Feel Dizzy with blurry eyes

I have all of the symptoms you mentioned, and after a lot of tests my doctor said the problems stem from anxiety. At the time, I thought he was crazy b/c I didn't realize anxiety could cause all of these physical problems. I also had very bad chest pain and numbness and tingling and the list could go on and on.
I would say yes, anxiety can cause all of the symptoms you're having.

so your still feeling this way. i just started feeling this way today. Man I can't imagine going any long than a day like this. I feel off balance. Like there is something wrong with my equilibreium. Sinus pressure I guess. I have been really really tired on top of all of these symptoms.

Re: Feel Dizzy with blurry eyes

I feel the same except for the pressure behind the eye. About a year ago apart from feeling dizzy with blurred vision, I also felt like if I was about to faint all the time. My blood pressure was always ok and I never fainted. Went through ekg, mri, blood work and everything showed up normal.

I'm still reluctant to beleive all of this is caused by anxiety alone.

Wondering ... how well do you all sleep at night ? .. I have a very hard time sleeping and when I wake up, I feel like if I didn't rest at all (even though I've slept 7 hrs)

Re: Feel Dizzy with blurry eyes

I have had these symptoms for months now. And I was told for the longest time it was anxiety and a certain part of it was. But I also went to and ENT and had some dizzyness tests done and found out I have a slightly elevated level of fluid in my ear which was causing the this sort of unbalance feeling. I waisted months sitting around contimplating anti deprresants and trying to figure out why I felt this way. I'm not saying this is what iit is for you. My symptoms were a sort of unbalance feeling. Like when i turned my head to quickly it felt like it took a second to get my sight lined up with where I was looking. Not like i was going to fall over but like being on unsteady ground. I aslo had a constant brain fog. Felt detatched. Couldn't concentrate. Flourescent lights were the worst. It was like looking into a haze. If you suffer from any sort of sinus trouble or have any ear trouble I would go get checked by an ENT. I'm not 100% better but I'm getting there. The anxiety with me came with just trying to figure out why I felt this way. I couldn't stop thinking about because it's always there. Now that I know what the root of the problem is I can focus on fixing it. I hope this helps you. Doctors ways for saying they have no idea what's wrong with you is by saying it's anxiety. When you hear that it automatically creates more anxiety. it's a vicious, vicious cycle. The best they can do is try to feed you "feel better drugs" which many of them know little about. Im not saying that they don't help the people who need them and maybe the people that don't need them. I'll stop here because i get to mad at the whole medical industry. I think it needs a complete overhaul. It may be to late though. Hope you feel better soon. And the thing to rememember is that all of your tests are okay so far. That's a great thing. If you haven't fallen over yet It probabably won't ever get any worse than it is. Try not to think about it.

You mentioned you had spells when you felt like you might faint, how long ago and what were you ever told about them? I am going through that right now, nobody knows why? Did the fainting spells just go away?
Thanks

Re: Feel Dizzy with blurry eyes

Abbygirl,

They started exactly 1 year 4 months ago ... I first had 2 episodes and then exactly 1 year ago it became constant. I was tested for almost everything (blood, neuro routine tests, ears, parasites, thyroid, MRI, tilt table test, EKG, blood pressure, blood sugar, etc...) The "critical" tests I missed where ECG, Carotid doppler and a Holter test (none of the docs thought they where necessary).

They diagnosed me with the following:

Dehydration
Orthostatic Hypotension
Neurocardiogenic Syncope
Reactive Hypoglycemia

Obviously none of those where true except for the reactive hypoglycemia but that's about it. Reactive Hypoglycemia doesn't cause those symptoms unless you're entering a complete hypoglycemic shock and the funny thing is I once had my blood sugar tested while I felt I was fainting and everything came back normal (same happened with blood pressure).

It just went away with time ... The thing is even though I could have sworn I was going to faint that same minute, I never did. It didn't matter if I layed down, raised my legs or anything ... it was just a constant feeling through out the day and only time I felt alive and well was when I was sleeping. The last thing the Neurologist told me was I might have to live that for the rest of my life and fortunately I just feel slightly dizzy with blurred vision these days.

BTW, I was pale all day long.

I then went to a psychiatrist who never gave me a diagnosis but started giving me a bunch of medications. He prescribed me with klonopin, Lexotan, Zoloft, Xanax, Prozac, Wellbutrin and who knows what else and since I didn't feel better I stoped taking them before I became extremely depenant on them (I'm currently tappering off the last one which is Lexotan).

I hope you get over it soon because I know exactly what you feel like and I'm sure its worst than death itself :(

Re: Feel Dizzy with blurry eyes

thanks for replying, my days are pretty much like that. At first it seemed to come in spells but now its pretty constant. Its not always an extreme feeling of faintness but scary nonetheless. I too have had several tests, although not all the ones you had. I know its not my blood pressure, I have been recording my blood pressure consistently for 3 weeks now. Laying down doesn't always relieve it either. Like you said, I am safe from the feeling only when sleeping. I am presently looking into the" fear of fainting" which is kind of like a panic attack but with fainting sensations instead of heart/breathing sensations.
What exactly is Reactive Hypoglycemia, they have checked my blood sugar several times, always fine, even during a spell.

What a horrible thing to go through, I am glad your getting better.

Re: Feel Dizzy with blurry eyes

Reactive Hypoglycemia basically means your blood sugar drops after 2-4 hrs of eating. You may have been tested for blood glucose already and the results may have been normal, but that doesn't rule out Reactive Hypoglycemia. In order to test it out, you need to have a Glucose Tolerance test of 5 hrs. Anything less than 5 hrs might not show the correct glucose curve in your system.

The test is quite simple. Blood is drawn from you, then you'll be asked to drink 100mg of glucose and 30 mins later they'll draw blood again. They will draw again 30 mins later and then once every hour until the 5 hrs are completed.

Re: Feel Dizzy with blurry eyes

I had that symptom long with headaches and it turned out to be reactive hypoglycemia. Try eliminating, sugar, caffeine, alcohol & white flour and see if it helps.

Re: Feel Dizzy with blurry eyes

Trust me, I was in the same boat, I tried Atkins, and all of the blood sugar related symptoms VANISHED.
I went from 220lbs to 172 lbs and haven't had an attack or symptom since. My only symptom is worrying if I will gain it all back.
