    anxiety and jittery but why

Hi, I have had chronic back pain for 8 years and am used to it. In december my sacrum/lumbar pain became worse. I started getting heart palpitations, later a nervous feeling, then progressed to a fear feeling and now I am back to getting Jittery. I feel this gets worse on days when I have pain and somedays eases of to normal. My doctor thinks my pain is making me anxious. Could there be another reason like some nerve damage, pinched nerves etc, I dont feel like my head is doing this to me. How effective are anti depressants for this, I am on lorazepam at the moment but she will not let me stay on this for long and I am away on holiday next month and dont want to worry about this problem. Thanks for any advise.

I would see a chiropractor. I worked for one and I was amazed at what a messed up or out of place back can do to a person. I also learned adjustments can help woth anxiety if it is due to something in the back. Its kinda like a plant for example. If you dont water it and put it in sunlight eventually it will dry out and wilt away , but if you do it in time you can revive it before it gets that far and its a happy growing plant. It is similar to keeping your back in good health. Adjustments and such can help you and Bring you back to "life". I would defenitely get looked at by a chiropractic. If it is the case it would be a lot better than taking meds everyday.

I also suggest a chiropractor, antidepressant meds sometimes do reduce pain

strong painkillers often reduce stress and anxiety also

Re: anxiety and jittery but why

It's hard for me to make a judgement about anxiety coming from the pain, as I've had chronic back pain for 4 years ( a herniated disc) but also have had depression most of my life & more recently panic attacks.
I do know my depression is worse when my pain is worse.
With my herniated disc a chiro couldn't do anything for me, she sent me to a specialist. I got therapy & it got rid of the pain, which I was in 24/7 and could not sleep at all, there was no way I could lay or sit to releive the pain. Finally, I got smart from reading the internet & insisted that I wanted this therapy. It took me over 3 months in therapy, but it worked, I now have the tools they taught me to keep my back from ever getting that bad again.

A few times as in three times. When I started my adjustments I was in pain and had headaches but after keeping it up, they went away as well as a majority of my problems. Starting adjustments is like starting a new medecine, sometimes you have those nasty sidce effects and eventually they go away. I would really give it a try again.
