Meditation and Relaxation Techniques

I have been trying breathing exercises, muscle relaxation and meditation for about three weeks now. I thought I would go over my techniques and I hope others can give me some insight and tips on how they do it. Advice on relaxation techniques in general would be cool too. Thanks everyone!

I am good at the breathing exercises. You breathe in for a count of at least four hold it for four and then let it go for at least four second. Supposed to do this in thru your nose and out thru your mouth for at least five minutes. Also make sure your breathing with your stomach. You should see your stomach rise with each breath in and fall with each breath out; not your chest.

Iím having mixed success with muscle relaxation where you tense you muscles and then let them relax. You have to do this all over your body. Itís also called progressive muscle relaxation. I got a CD where youíre walled thru all the muscles and you have to tense and relax them all. It is very time consuming to go over all the muscles. I do this with the breathing exercises.

Meditation is the hardest one for me. I just sit there and watch my breathing. I count one for every breath in and two for every breath out. Youíre supposed to slow your breathing down and concentrate very hard on it and nothing else. Talk about boring.

meditation works for some but makes some more anxious
