    Re: beta blockers for anxiety

i took them for panic symptoms for about a week (slow release 80mg a day) and then I got some 10mg emergency ones and they seemed to help me at the time

All they do is slow the heatrate and generally restric bloodflow so you don't hyperventilate as much (that was my problem at the time) and they can keep blood pressure from rising too much

They might make the extremities cold though (mouth, hands, penis, nose, feet) - they did with me anyway, my fingers started getting cold

Like Madonna, I also takes 50mg of atenolol. It has helped me tremendously, although the effect isn't as great now as it was when I first started taking it last year.

I took propranolol and it took the edge off the anxiety very slightly, but not much. No medication has worked for me, I don't know what that says about my anxiety lol.

I would like a prescription of propranolol because it's always nice to have for things like interviews, public speaking etc, but I'm too scared to ask the doc!

You're in the same quandery that many of us face frequently. You go to a doctor specifically to ask for a prescription for such and such, because you've heard people on the internet say it has helped them for the same problem. But then at the last moment you chicken out!! Anyone else done this??

the docs are there to serve us and not to pass judgement on us, also we pay them, they dont pay us to see them
beta blockers are useful for the physical but not mental problems from stress and anxiety, they also usually lower the blood pressure, so doc should monitor it

Do beta blockers help the shaky anxious feeling? Are they better than anti-depressants? I feel nervous from the minute I wake up until I can relax at night. I have my panic under control. Will beta blockers help that?
