Re: Personal question<

hi my mom has bipolar disorder and has had 3 nervous breakdowns in here past due to a whole lot of stress for a long period of time. Here is a list of some of the symptoms I found on the do not have to have all of of these to be experiancing a is best to get to your doctor about this and see what their opinion is.

Symptoms of nervous breakdown may be:

uncharacteristic, uncontrollable, irrational behaviour
intense and excessive anxiety
severe depression
obsessive activity - persistent performance of an irrational activity, or of a normal activity to an irrational degree
manic depression - depression interspersed with periods of euphoria
destructive and self-destructive behaviour:
doing stupid things:
giving up a good job
breaking up good relationships
becoming dependent on drugs
Where breakdown appears to be underway, seek professional help immediately.

Re: Personal question<

My understanding of a nervous breakdown is that the term is basically extinct. It was an umbrella term used in the 70's (I think) to cover illnesses like anxiety and depression, but now they have broken it down into anxiety, depression etc. Nowadays the term isn't used in psychiatry or that, but people still say it.
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell.
