I officially have been Dx'd with anxiety!! WHooo Hooo :(

    Hello everyone,
I officially have been dx'd with baseline anxiety today. I believe this has been brought on by numerous stressers that have been going on in my life this past year.

I have 3 children one of which has been battleing a cronic illness for alittle over a year now... which has lead us down a path of not only health worries for her but financial worries. I had to stop working to care for her, we than had a job layoff to deal with... and everything that goes with that.Things however, are finally looking up now. My husband has found a good job that he deserves to have. Finding a new career at 43 is not easy... my daughter is getting better.Finacially things are so much more stable than they have been in 2 years. I can finally rest my mind concernng quiet a few issues in our lives.

Sure I had my moments during it all. Nights behind closed doors where I cried and cried for my daughter and what was happening to her. But I never got sick, I never felt pain in my body. Even my gerd and stomach issues didin't bother me, nor my whiplash injury that usually gives me so much trouble when Im stressed, nor my TMJ. So now that things are getting back on track and this should be a happy time and a time for me to take a breather.....WHy the heck does my mind and body decide to turn on me!!

I have a rotater cuff problem that Iam being seen for in physical threpy...but this pain in my shoulder has now gone acrossed my upper back...into my other shoulder, down both my arms, My biceps and triceps hurt so bad. Under my armpits hurts, down the backs of my leggs spasm, my whiplash injury is flaring in my neck which makes it even hard to turn my head and touching it is out of the question...and my TMJ is back, my jaw hurts, ears ring and hurt..... ect ect ect.

Sooooooooooooooooooooooo in the meantime Im thinking I have some very bad illness going on inside of me and make another appt with my PCP and maybe I will have some blood tests run to make sure Im okay. After talking to my doctor whom I really like, she tells me this is very common for people who have been through what I have been this past year. She thinks my rotater cuff problem is one issue and my pain and muscles spasms are all related to anxiety and that although Iam trying my best to handle it all on my own, that I may need more help and is referring me to a phyc and wants me to talk talk talk talk talk when I get there. WHich is tomorrow.

Im the meantime I am taking Klonopin. WHich I started about a month agao. SHe wants me to keep on that but does not feel I need to take any intidepressents at this time. Also she has given me flexeril for the muscles spasms in my back and neck. She said to be careful taking them together cause they will make me very sleepy so try to space them out. Klonopin already makes me sleepy so Im thinking Im gonna be a Zombie when I add the flexeril. WHich maybe I need for a couple days anyway...

What Iam wanting to know though is who can give me some good vitamin choices that have worked for you. I have never taken vitamins before and Im thinking maybe I should make this the start of a healthier me. Get into some couseling, get rid of some old bagage that has been following me around all these years, get out and excersise to take off these pounds that I put on after my daughter got sick, except the docs dx's that all this pain is due to all my worry and Im not going to die anytime soon and show my kids and myself that I can do better! Im 42 and not getting any younger!! Sounds good in theory although implamenting it will be a whole other issue.

I think this post of mine has kind of turned into more of a get things out post. Thanks for letting me share this. It's been a difficult time and at times a person thinks that they may be lossing it all together....its a scarry feeling.

    Hi Laura:

Wow...I can sense your pain. I don't know much about vitamins other than a good multivitamin for women and maybe supplementing with a B-complex, and a magnesium/calcium/zinc combo. I also take fiber supplements and I feel they help with not only my digestive system, but I really think they help keep my weight down (but I do try not to eat too much).

I'm 46 and have had some of the same stresses you've had. I hope your daughter is doing okay. There is nothing like worrying about the people we love, especially our kids. It sounds like you've been running on adrenaline for awhile and now it's catching up to you. I think you are smart and brave to seek out help for yourself. Us moms always seem to put ourselves last, but our families need us. Getting older, in general, seems to hurt more. I hope you can find some relief soon.

By the way, I take Xanax as needed which is like Klonopin, and I take Soma at bedtime which is a muscle relaxer like Flexeril. I don't have to take Xanax all the time and I cut the pill in half so I'm not too sleepy. My combo seems to help me. I agree with your doctor about not taking antidepressants...I've tried many and they all caused me problems. You certainly don't need anything else to deal with right now.

    Take care of yourself

Thanks for your reply....Yes my doctor who is a mom of 2 and PG with her 3rd said to me today. There is a silent club of moms all over the world who suffer in silence because of the stigma of asking for help. I think it's so true.

But I also wanted to ask you if you have ever taken the Zanax along with the muscle relaxer or if you always take them seperatly like you said. I am alittle freaked about taking both my Klonopin and my flexeril tonight at bedtime. So maybe just the flexerile before bed and see how I feel in the morning? I have been taking a half Klonopin am and a half pm and sleep pretty good. Without it Im up alot from the pain. Maybe I will just try the flexeril tonight.

Thanks again for your reply. Words of encouragement from ppl who we may never meet but who know how we are feeling can help a ton.

Hi, I just visited a naturopathic doctor yesterday and she recommended we eat plenty of proteins since that is what the body needs to produce serotonin. She also recommended fish oil (essential fatty acids) because it has been found to help with depression. Finally, she prescribed L-theanine, a natural relaxation supplement that is supposed to help not need the serax (like xanax and klonopin) which is very addictive. Other than that she mentioned therapy is what i really need.

    Hi Laura:

I have taken Xanax and Soma together, but only at night before bed. It's a little tricky just walking to the bathroom after that combo, so I never do it during the day when I have to drive. I usually just take the muscle relaxer at night, unless I am filled with extra anxiety that is keeping me from sleeping...then I'll take Xanax too. Usually that will only happen right before my period when I have PMS.

As I recall, Flexeril (I took it years ago) gave me a little groggy hangover in the morning, but a cup of coffee seemed to clear the cobwebs. The great thing about muscle relaxers at night is is helps your body really relax while sleeping. If you are worried about taking the two together, just try the Flexeril and if you can't sleep after an hour, go ahead and take the Klonopin.

Good luck and sweet dreams. Keep us posted.

I took just the flexeril last night and I slept really well. Some of the pain in my arms and my elbows was even better this morning. Of coarse by late this afternoon it was back. But I was thank-full for the break anyway. It is just such a viciuos cycle when your hurting. The more I hurt the more I think it's something else. The higher my anxiety. The more I want to just go to bed but than if I do that, it hurts worse from laying and not being active. My husband wants me to take the muscle relaxers as perscribed which is one every 4 hours and just sleep (which I would if I took them evey 4 hours)for a day and see if it helps. Im afraid to do that though cause Im afriad laying in bed will make it even worse. Like I said, viciuos cycle. YUK!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Laura:

If your husband is going to be supportive and look after your kids to allow you to sleep for a day...go for it. Also, I didn't mean to imply you shouldn't follow your doctor's orders. I was explaining what works for me because I wouldn't be able to take care of my family during the day if I took both medicines...I'd have to sleep too. Your husband is the one that lives with you and can see the pain you are in. If he thinks you need a whole day of rest, you probably do. As for your comment about laying in bed making things worse, it might if you do it for too many days, but if you're anxiety, muscles and body don't get a rest, you won't be any good anyway. Just remember to get as much light exercise as you can when not in bed and you should be fine. Don't do too much when you're on medication though...you might strain yourself. Are you taking anything for pain besides muscle relaxers? Maybe some ibuprofen would help too.

Hi SRMOM....I took your advice when I took only the flexeril the other night. I was thinking just as you wrote about your experience taking the two together, that I would not be functioning all to well if I took them together. I do think that maybe come Saturday I will take a mental health day and just sleep and take my meds and see if a whole day of it will help things calm down in my body better. Hubby will be home that day ...all day!
I have been taking ALeve twice a day for the pain. Doc said to take it instead of advil cause you don't have to take it as often so I switched to Aleve last week. I also started taking my protonix again for my stomach cause whenever I take advil or anything like it it just eats my stomach and I end up with pain there as well. Well just today now my stomach is feeling very quesy and it is begining to hurt. Alot like when I had bad reflux and my stomach hurt so much. Right side towards the middle.
Im tired of this and I hope soon my body starts to calm down.
Someday when Im feeling better and some of this starts to subside Im going to try some of the natural remedies that have been suggested to me to calm anxiety. Im just not willing to try them right now when Im in the thick of it all.
