    waking up with choking sensation??????

Just a quick question for anyone....

Recently I'm having problems sleeping, I wake up and feel like I can't breathe, like my throat is closing,, and I have to get up and walk around try and talk myself out of it,, (maybe hit something in anger because of how scared it makes me ) And I wake up about 3 sometimes 4 times a night. Anyone ever experience this???

Yes I have, especially after a nightmare or a bad day. Within about a minute of waking up, I will feel like I can't breathe and then my throat and neck tighten up. It's awful. Try to take notice of what you are thinking about when you wake up? Are you having dreadful thoughts? Nightmares? That's what I think it is from. I've started telling myself, regardless how I feel, I "can" breathe, and that helps. Hugs help too!

I get this also from time to time.
I start coughing and it wakes me right up and I feel as if I can't swallow.
    Oh it's a terrible feeling.

I go in the kitchen and get a glass of water and sip it to prove to myself I CAN swallow.

throat problems are common from stress, but always get doc to check your throat, food allergies or asthma are possible causes of whats been mentioned
