sertraline? Any ideas

Im actually posting on behalf of my sister.
She has OCD and anxiety and our doc has switched her from citalopram to sertraline (50mg daily).
Day two and she aint doing to well with the side effects, shes sick, shaky and her memory is terrible, she stops mid sentence forgeting what shes talking about and she has terrible diahrea. Generally she feels really unwell.
Are these side effects normally so severe? Should she persevere.
I have never myself heard of this drug, is it new?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

both are antidepressants of the same type,was the other helping at all and how long was she on it? she could ask about lowering the dose for a while by halving the tablet, some valium type med would also help to get used to the new antidepressant
sertaline is often called zoloft, eventually it may help a lot with her problems

ask at your local library for a self help book on overcoming OCD, it will give you ideas on how to help her

She was on the citalopram about 9month, it wasnt working for her so the doc switched it to sertraline.
She is having CBT therapy for her OCD which IS helping with the OCD, but she still sufferes with anxiety and depression.
I dont think she would want any valium type meds as the sertraline is making her drowsy enough (plus doctors in the UK arent as keen to provide such drugs).
I will suggest taking half for the first week or so, lets hope the side effects pass soon.

I started Sertraline (after being switched from Fluoxetine) back in April 2005. I had pretty much all the side effects you listed above, and for me they subsided within a couple of weeks. I experienced the same set of side effects upon increasing the dosage each time, but again they settled within a couple of weeks. Sertraline is also known as Lustral (in the UK) and Zoloft (in the US).
