Ativan... how long does it last?

Just wondering how long one .5mg tablet takes to wear off?
Also, I take Tylenol #2 for my TMJ pain and I read that Ativan can cause side effects with narcotics but my Dr. didnt tell me anything about this.

    Re: long does it last?

You're taking a very small dose of Ativan- equivalent to .25mg of Xanax.

From my experience with these meds, they usually wore off for me between 4-6 hours.

Does your Dr. know you are taking the Tylenol #2? If he does, the reason he might not have mentioned anything is because the amount of Codeine in Tylenol #2 is so minute, that the effects between the two are probably non-existent. Obviously, consult a doctor or pharmacist if you are concerned, but I'm just letting you know

A lot of these CNS effects are magnified in the elderly--that is where a lot of the warnings come from.

It would be a lot different if you were taking 60-120mg of Morphine and 6mg of Ativan, but you're not... Your doses are much, much smaller than that.
    Hope that helps.

Unless you are insanely sensititve to medications, it's probably fine, but make sure you ask your doctor. I remember after I had hernia surgery, I was on percocet (a MUCH stronger narcotic painkiller than tylenol 2) and 1mg of ativan twice daily. Made me a bit more drowsy, but nothing near dangerous.

Yes my doctor and pharmacist know that I take Tylenol 2, you can't get it without a perscription. The T2's are only temporary for my TMJ until I can get a different med, my doctor just didn't want to start me on something new incase I had a reaction which would not make for a fun wedding or honeymoon. I am going to call my pharmacist again today just to make sure but the T2's only have 15mg of codeine in them. And I'm certainly not elderly...only 22! hehe.

    Thanks for the replies.

Ativan takes longer than Xanax to start working but stays in your system longer than Xanax. Ativan stays in your system for 8 hours vs. xanax 5-6 hours. But Xanax works in 20 minutes or less while Ativan can take up to 1 hour.
