breathlessness due to anxiety and nervous tension

Hi all. I am new here. Just wondered if anyone felt like I too. I feel s if I cannot get enough air in to breathe properly. I feel as if I am being smothered. I also have a tight band around my middle and I worry for England !!

I keep thinking that I have heart disease and that it is heart failure. The thing is that when I am occupied and 'forgetting' myself I am ok.
Please share any symptoms with me as I feel as if I am going crazy.

hi angie I have had this also except that tight band feeling would be in my lung area.I used to get this pretty often as a teenager.I could'nt even yawn fully because of it.Once it started i'd focus on it alot which probably made it seem worse.Anyway,I am now 32 yr old so I have'nt suffocated.I still get it once in a while.Alot of anxiety sufferers seem to have this issue.I would still mention it to your doctor if you have'nt already

It seems to be the main problem that anxity suffers struggle with. I am anxious i dont think i have panic attacks, as i dont have any other symptoms, but i do get air hunger attacks daily. I hate it.

I'm dealing with this right now too...I have been for the past couple of days. I feel pressure on my chest and have to take a deep breaths but it's still hard to.

Hi, this is what happens to me too. I get so nervous and then feel like i can't breathe properly and it's horrible and this usually happens to me once or twice a day, maybe more if i'm having a bad day, i haven't been to see my dr yet but i have made an appointment.

    Good first move Liana.

I was very reluctant but Doc gave me prozac a month ago ,and im sure i feel a tiny bit better. I'm running it alongside CBT training so im hoping it will work for me.

Re: breathlessness due to anxiety and nervous tension

    Hi,
I have been a long time anxiety sufferer as well. Although I don't get the actual "panic attacks" anymore ( the rapid heartbeat, sweating etc), I do get the breathing attacks almost daily. It is very frightening, but I have given up on the fact that the doctors "missed something". My anxiety is obviously evolving and I guess I have to learn to evolve with it. No matter how long I deal with it though it still terrifies me. Will go back to doc and see if he can perscribe something that I can take daily, as right now I am taking Clonazepam as needed. Good luck
