beta blocker or benzo
I am generally not an anxious person but am petrified of public speaking. I have to do a presentation next month overseas at an international conference and am dreading it.

i have tried diazepam in the past with no effect. what i experience is largely the physical effects of anxiety - dizziness, racing heart, ringing in ears etc and feeling like i am going to pass out.

would a beta blocker be better - does anyone have any experience with both types of medication and able to share the differences in effects?

Re: beta blocker or benzo
I don't personally have any experience with social anxiety or public speaking or beta blockers, but my husband has a horrible fear of public speaking and he has to take 1 beta blocker and two Xanax before doing anything in front of people at work. It helps him out, but not as much as he'd like. He said it makes it bearable though. He takes Wellbutirin (sp?) SR I think daily also. He isn't an anxious person on a daily basis, but he does need the med to keep the edge off along with the Xanax and the beta blocker in social situations. You should check into that, but what I'd really recommend is that you try some therapy to get you over your anxiety with it. That may be more beneficial to you. Good luck!!
