new to board

hello, im new to this stuff so i'll begin with a little history. i currently live with my wife.i'm a marine vet (somalia, iraq)but due to my anxiety was forced to resign from the job i love the most. i currently take zoloft and klonopin for sudden attacks of panic. 2 years ago i awoke from sleep with the thought i was havin a heart attack, went to er but was told i was fine. since then i have been obssesed with the fact i have a heart problem which i have been tested for...all negative by the way, but yet it still consumes me, and everyday life.

i have been unable to work due to my fears..(silly huh)at least thats what most say. ive decided to join this website for friends ,advice or whatever relief i can find for this disease i have. thanks for listening

Re: new to board

Don't think it is silly at all. Things hit people at different times, in different ways. I was doing okay most of my life, then my sister-in-law had a heart attack and died. My husband went back for the funeral, and I was working here at home and then boom, was so over consumed with grief, sadness could not work, just wanted to lay in bed and sleep, lost 17 lbs, finally met up with a good enough grief counselor coupled with meds (effexor and lorazipan (for sleeping)), and eventually started feeling better. It is a chore sometimes to pull yourself out of bed and survive the day, but you have to find the reasons to do so, and use those reasons to help.

Re: new to board

Stressed Vet5150, I'm reading you loud and clear It's been 37 years for me and the
PTSD hasn't gone away. The first couple of years 'back in the world' are the roughest, your combat instincts screams fight or flight. My experience in combat was you didn't have time to be frightened, coming home for me was the most frighting experience of all. How could I talk to anyone? I went 22 years without treatment cause officially there was no PTSD,BS! In 1990 I was fortunate to get into a PTSD group outside the VA. I was with a 'Band of Brothers' who understood, no need to confess sins, just laughing with someone that 'understood' that was the best medicine. Your not alone Brother there are a lot of us that's been there and done that. Welcome Home! by the way your normal :**>
