Daggers through feet...severe electricity in ankles..Anyone have scar tissue removed

Have had three back surgeries: '98 Lam/Dis (L5s1),'99 Double fusion, '01 Remove hardware and refuse.

Went few years without to much leg and back pain, then pins and needles and severe electricity began to grow worse in legs and especailly feet..

When try to stretch feet they curve in, toes grow numb and stick together

I suffer terrible spasms now--nine years without spasms and now they appear.

Does this sound like scar tissue like I have been told?

If so, has anyone had surgery to remove scar tissue? Is it worth it? After four years (when new symptoms began, but only recent months has grown so much worse) is it too late?

I've always been told taht one of the problmes with these surgery is that scar tissue builds up, if they remove it then more forms etc etc etc I haven't personally been through it though.

Scar tissue removal is a tricky and delicate undertaking. Even the best surgeons won't do it because they say it just comes back, sometimes even more than the original amount. I've also heard that, depending on the proceedure it can be done with success. For instance, though I've had some doubts, I've heard that laser surgery to remove it can work. According to the ones who do it ( e.g. laser spine institute ), they can vaporize the scar tissue around a nerve with high precision without creating too much trauma. It's the excess trauma that creates more scarring. Apparently, the incisions are less than 1". I wish there was more studies out there to show how effective this laser surgery really is. If anyone knows about some, please give the reference so we can all become more informed.

    HI,
I also suffer from scar tissue problems, PM Dr. says that the amount of scar tissue I have is way to much to help. Guess the scar tissue starts to wrap around the nerves and then when you move it tugs at the nerves creating the pain we have.

I have had 4 surgeries with in a 3 1/2 yr span, none were successful fusions. I'm sorry you are suffering so.

    God Bless

    Carol

I am still seekin' for treatment for scar tissue removal. Yet, probably to late...man the electrical pain...hear that probably destroyed nerves for good. Sucks. had two good years between third back surgery in 01 till the return of nerve pain so much worse than when this now 11 year mess began.

I hope as you do that there are folks out there who have had scar tissue removed with good results and will share their story here even if they have in the past.

    Aloha......

Konakid, I have adhesive arachnoiditis along with some epidural fibrosis. The condition is scar tissue binding the nerves and nerve roots. The only treatment is palliative care. I wish there was a magic surgery or treatment that could dissolve scar tissue. I've had to come to acceptance that my disease is incurable and painful. I'm thankful that I have a good, compassionate doc and that at long last I have a diagnosis, as I was going from specialist to specialist, to no avail. If there is hope in laser surgery, it would be news to the 2,000 members of my arachnoiditis support group.
I found that the worst of the daggers and ankle nerve pains and weird feelings can be relieved somewhat by neurontin, which is one of my cocktail of 7 meds that I need to have any function. Others swear by Lyrica-it's very individual as to what med works.
