I was dig nosed 15 years ago with degenerative spine disorder. After the initial issue the pain went away and I got back to normal. 7 years ago I was injured and had to have a knee surgery. When I woke up from the surgery I was in terrible pain in my right butt muscle. Since that date it has gotten better/ worse but never gone away. In January of this year I went to my ortho who forwarded me to a nuro dr due to back pain radiating down my right leg. A prior MRI showed 3 bulging discs in my lower back. The nuro basically told me all they could do was injections of which I have had 4 all extremely painful, all lasted a few weeks before they provided no relief.
More recently the pain in my butt has gotten worse. I have never used pain mess before, but I am now. My lower back hurts on both sides, then runs down right leg to my butt where a knot of muscles are located. The pain also goes down the front of my right thigh and it hurts really bad while sitting or walking for any duration. I am having similar symptoms in my left leg. I went to the dr last week almost furious. My job is being threatend and I have got to get better. DR ordered another MRI and that was done Tuesday, I find out the results next Tuesday. I am so scared, the dr said even if we found something he wasn't sure what we would do about it?? I am miserable. Cannot get up and down without a big production.
Has anyone had similar and gotten fixed? I went to a chiropractor in the past with some success but the last month it only made me worse. I have a knot right on the point of my hip on both sides that pain killers don't help at all... I am sorry, I am miserable and know nobody who has had this type of back issue that the DR seems so lost how to proceed??

Thanks

Welcome to the board. I am sorry you are suffering and cannot find answers.
When you refer to your ortho, would that be the surgeon who worked on your knee or was it a spine specialist?

Since you have seen a neurosurgeon, I suggest you get an evaluation by a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon. Have you had a recent MRI to see what is going on at this point of time? Oops...I see you just had one. Let us know the results when you get them!

I'm not really sure what "degenerative spine disorder" means to you.

If there is degeneration all through the spine, perhaps the doctor was indicating there was no single procedure or surgery that would address the issues.
Usually there is an attempt to determine what is causing the pain.
Imaging is done of the discs, spinal canal, spinal cord, nerve roots, neuro foramina, facet joints and soft tissue.

Maybe the over-all degeneration cannot be stopped, but there might turn out to be one specific pain generator that could be addressed.

The problems that arose after knee surgery sound more muscular, involving the piriformis muscle. But since you already know you have some disc herniations, which, I assume, are lower lumbar....they too are probably responsible for many of the symptoms.

After we learn more about the new MRI, people will have more suggestions for you.
