I've finally given in and decided to try an antidepressant to treat my ibs-c. I have found mixed reviews on it treating ibs, but most seem to be for ibs-D. Wondering has anyone had success taking antidepressants/ssri's for ibs-c? If so which ones? Could you tell me about your experience? How long did it take and would you say it cured you or came close?

I was specifically prescribed sertraline 25mg. It has been a week, and haven't noticed any change with my constipation or bloating. I go up to 50mg tomorrow and am hoping to start seeing some signs of improvement. I have noticed it has helped my GERD and LPR so those are some hints at good news digestive wise, now just need it to act on my lower digestive system!

From what my GI doc says, they tend to cause more constipation than alleviate it, but I am curious, how you made out? I was once on Celexa for anxiety, and it did help my constipation. However, I was much younger and my constipation was not nearly as bad as now.

Did it ever seem to help?
