do u think the odor can be coming from your rectum?

if so join the club, looks like something is definately going around

As for the bad breath, those pocket packs help. Do you have any other symptons like a coated tongue etc?

08-22-2004, 08:41 PM
Yes I do think it comes from the rectum,it feels wet like sweat or something even when I'm just standing there not doing anything .As for my bad breath I think it's coming from my insides but maybe I'm wrong.Do you think it could be from too much sugar?I drink alot of pop.I don't know what else it could be, I don't eat takeout anymore.

Shader: yup same here, I would suggest hitting your doctor and asking for a referral to see a GI specialist and to get them to take a look inside. Even when i eat nothing at all the same **** happens, it seems the only thing that stops it is being really relaxed.

I have to wait till november though stupid waiting times.

I have the same thing except my breath isn't bad. I have a lot of sweating/dampness near my rectum and anytime I begin to exercise my shorts get soaked even when the rest of my body doesn't sweat.

I don't think you should have quit your job though. You should have kept working hard and let them fire you if the smell got that bad, you might have a lawsuit there. I do understand your anxiety though, I'm currently looking for a job and I'm just going to work untill I'm fired, no matter how bad the coworkers say I stink.

It seems like a few people here have a very similar affliction, if we put our heads together we can probably get this thing solved.

I did see my GI and I did the scope and a baraminem < I think that's how you spell it,she agreed I was really gasy but could not figure out why, when I did the scope they found nothing wrong, the baraminem they said they found some acid coming up from my stomach but nothing major,I only told them about the gas and the sweat feeling I get,I did not tell them about the bad smell because I was to embaressed but I did tell my doctor before I went to see the GI and he looked at me like I was crazy.GO FIGURE!

Sometimes it feels like a liquid is being released ? Thats why it feels damp and wet

Dunno if you guys have wierd grumbling noises as well from your rectum?

08-25-2004, 01:45 PM
I have the same problem. I have tried everything to get rid of the problem; I tried charco caps and gasx they both do not work for me. My doctor told me to put more fiber in my diet but that seems to make the problem worse. Does any one have a solution?

08-25-2004, 09:27 PM
Were all looking for one, it seems even when i ate nothing at all the smell still happens so i dont think it can be gas?.

08-28-2004, 01:21 PM
Sometimes it feels like a liquid is being released? Check.

Grumbling noises from bladder and rectum? Check.

Strange/foul odour coming from rectal area? Check.

Constant burning sensation, pressure? Check.

Finding a colon rectal surgeon who knows what the heck is wrong with me? Priceless.

Hobbs: 4 yups as well, when did it start for you if you could trace it?

One doctor i talked to said it could be discharge from a anal abscess (sp) which would explain the wet dampness and burning sensation. But i cant smell the stuff at all myself. Keep us posted

The person who mentioned the acid from the stomache did they go into further detail?

Maybe it's an infection, or something we eat that were alergic too? I drink alot of pop so maybe it could be that, someone told me it might be to much sugar in my diet.Does anyone else drink alot of pop or consume alot of sugar? If we all work together we might be able to find out what's wrong with us.If you guys get any info post it in here or start another thread to keep us all informed. We have to find out what we're up against or we will have to live the rest of our lives like this.

Puterafication bacteria can cause your BMs to smell very bad. Bad/ unfriedly intestinal bacteria thrive on sugar so you have to decrease your intake of sugary foods and intake friendly bacteria that promote good digestion. Sodas are all sweetened with corn syrup since 1970 (fructose)

Yogurt, Kefir and a probiotic supplement several times daily help get your friendly intestinal bacteria/ flora re-balanced.

Also too much salty food will mess up your digestion. Surprising as it may seem -- a normal BM is not suppose to smell bad. Well not extremely offensive. You may need a digestive enzyme with each meal.

About the body and mouth/breath-- all unfriendly bacteria as well as harmful bacteria grows in an alkaline environment so you have to make your body slightly acidic to reduce body odor caused by unfriendly stinking body odor bacteria from generating. ALL SOAP products produce akaline film on the skin that is almost impossible to wash off with just water. And, when you think you are clean the unfriendly bacterua grows when you get a little hot/warm and sweat!!

You can make your entire body acidic where no odor smelling bacteria grows by using water in a tub and add a cup of vinegar ( the white vinegar is not as strong smelling) and just soak and then pat yourself dry. The vinegar smell will go away in about 20 minutes or less and you won't smell like a pickle-- I promise!!

The Acid will retard offensive bacteria growth. I have used this as a deodorant for 25 years and it works. A book was written in 1958 about the use of apple cider vinegar as well as the use of honey and kelp-- it was named Vermont Folk Medicine but it name has been changed to just "Folk Medicine" by Dr.Jarvis,MD.

Also, it is good to use a mouth wash with a teaspoon of vinegar to a glass of water. Gargle twice then swallow it. It is also a good mouth wash to kill ALL unfriendly mouth bacteria for sore throats as well as bad odor.

Take a Zinc vitamin--- there is an old saying -- "Take zinc and don't stink". I don't know if this is true but you need it anyway!!!

I also am a great believer in taking a water soluble fiber supplement like Metamucil to make you regular w/o straining. Health begins in the intestines.

God Bless---Harry

I think Its malabsorption. Yesterday I did some research on malabsorption. I then bought an all in one calcium magnesium & zinc pills from Rite Aid. A day later I awoke and no more gas and no more stomach noises in the morning. Some foods like chicken eggs oatmeal and ice cream will still give me a lot of gas, But the smell is not as bad as before.

I've tried probiotic supplement pills for like 2 months and quit sugar for 2 weeks and I found it got worse but maybe I didn't quit sugar long enough for it to get out of my system.Do I have to soak in vinegur every time I wash or just bath in it once a week?I gained alot of weight in the past 2 years and found that the smell got worse with my weight so maybe that has something to do with it and as for my bowel movements I'm going to start taking metamucil tablets and start drinking more water see if that helps. If you guys find out anymore info on this please keep me informed...thanks for all your help guys i appreciate it!

How long did you take the probiotics... I think you need to keep it up.... I am sure it helps my bad breath, I will contin ue to take them for the rest of my live. I think it is that good for me.

Try soaking in the tub couple of times instead of showering, use epsom salts and a pint of peroxide in the water both products are very inexpensive..

Does anyone think the rectal odor could be coming from possibly nerve damage or anything like that? I guess there would be no way to check that out?

I have the exact same problem Shader, bad breath and smell like stool. I have tried the same things you have to fix the problems...no success. It is a constant cause of embarrassment at work and in social situations...its terrible. I've considered every possible cause...excessive anal sweating, external rectal sphincter loosening (from constipation or from exposure to soap from over washing), stool leakage into the bloodstream, etc. As far as the breath goes, I believe my problem is from dry mouth. I don't know what to do. Do you have any of these symptoms: constipation, dry mouth, dry skin, feeling of loose rectal sphincter, excessive anal sweating, dry/thinning/coarse hair, sticky saliva, sticky tears, excessive gas, abdominal pains, rectal bleeding, fatigue, delayed physical development. I have recently went to the doctor and am being tested for hypothyroidism and Sjogren's syndrome (the latter being a immune disorder that causes dry mouth, dry skin, GI problems, among other things). I spend almost every waking moment trying to indentify the cause so I can find a solution.

;) One possibility for the bad breath could also be your gums.
I used to work for a periodontist (gum doc), and you would'nt beleive the problems this can cause. The pockets that can form around your teeth can trap food and bacteria and cause really bad breath, and I mean REALLY bad breath!!
It's just something to think about...

I have had an oder coming from my rectal area or around that area, I heard that you have to exersise the rectal area and that maybe as you get older your rectal becomes weekend and allows smelly oders to escape. Some times seems to get worse if I have sex more than 4 times a week but seems to feel better when I execise my rectal.....

Hi everyone,

I have just followed this thread and have a few observations. If I drink alcohol (beer) to excess my BM's the next day are numerous and are often restricted to a watery substance with a lot of gas and the odor is sweetly acidic. What this is down to I am not sure but it could be related to gastritis or H. Pylori. I have no odor from this area oridinarily. As for the bad breath aspect it could be related to Laryngo pharyngeal reflux which does not cause heartburn or damage to the esophaegus hence no evidence on endoscopy or barium. It goes right into throat and mouth creating a haven for anaerobic bacteria. Most parts of the body need to be slightly acidic to function eg stomach and intestines however the mouth should be alkaline. Anaerobic means without oxygen and the acid content of the mouth changes this delicate balance. It also interferes with the sinuses resulting in constant post nasal drip. If you are experiencing a fecal smell from your breath the most likely source is the tonsils which have become infected and are producing stones and foul odor even if you cannot see them. The food source for the bacteria and perhaps the cause of the infection itself is the pnd and food debris. Use a small flashlight and check for crypts on the tonsils and press gently with a qtip to see if any stones or liquid is released.

Hope helps

Hi shader:

My stepson used to drink huge amounts of soda everyday. It made me crazy because we never bought it for our kids, but when he got older he would take his lunch money and get those huge cups full at 7-ll or fast food places, and then get free refills!

Anyway, he started to become really smelly around the house. He had the most awful smelling gas...I kept asking if he was feeling okay. He didn't even know he smelled bad. A few years later, when he was living on his own, and still drinking tons of soda, he developed a terrible ulcer and actually had to go to the ER. He was told to stop drinking all soda and he was given a prescription for Nexium (for his ulcer). Now, he never smells bad anymore.

I think all of Harry's advice is really good too. It sounds like at the very least you should stop drinking soda and start drinking water. Take care.

Thank you everyone who has posted thier thaughts about this topic, I found all your opinions very usefull and will use everyone of them. I will be buying Yogurt, mixing a little apple cider vinegar with water and taking a long soaking bath in peroxide and epsom salt. I can almost feel relief already. A good healthy drink if you can drink it would be to mix: garlic, apple cider vinegar and honey in a blender and liquify....This goes down like a strong shot and is very good in the clensing of the body. I tried it and what a kick...like taking a shot of good wiskey but better for you. Thanks again everyone for all you posts...................... :-)

i have a similiar problem with the sweating

absolute no idea what causes it but its a life ruiner

my problems probably worse

i find myself using an awful lot of toilet paper, so maybe the problem arises from this.

smells can range from horse sh.it at times to burning smoke

getting a job is a no no

but i do the best i can to social occasionaly, although its tricky.

i bath every day and i keep reasonable hygiene.

i think my whole mid section is *****ed up as i can have erections for no reason, so if u add both these problems together u can imagine it can be a nightmare.

but the struggle continues, im a stronger person through this.

I have the same problem, well. i should say. i feel i have the same problem. Ive never noticed a bad smell coming off of myself. Its usually when im in a room, and others make a comment. like who farted. or it smells like ciggerettes and butt.

I will say that when im at home. i feel fine, and most of my friends say its in my head, but i know its atleast partly real.

I guess. if 1. i could smell it myself, and 2. if i knew what was wrong with me. it wouldnt be as bad.

I should also say that ive had all the tests done. barium enema. sigmoidoscopy.. all the blood tests. Ive actually been told that the structure of my colon is the best my gastro has ever seen. compared to most of the people that have that exam done.

I do have a question has anyone ever had any relief of help from the bad smells? it seems like everyone just learns to live with it.

This is an old post but I wanted to add my solution to a very similar problem. I did a lot of research on the internet and saw a doctor and couldn't find a solution. It happened when I was nervous. A strange smell would come off me. In non-stress environments it would never happen.

The solution: Gatorade, Gatorade, Gatorade.

Do I have a potassium deficiency? Not sure but drinking lots of Gatorade stops it.

And avoid cleanses. My problem was caused by doing a cleanse and I warn people about them.
