Hi:

I'm supposed to have Moh's surgery next Monday on a basal cell carcinoma that's on my upper lip. My Dermatologist has prescribed Cipro for me to start taking the day before the surgery. Since he's changed my appointments and his mind about treatment several times, I don't want to start taking antibiotics before, b/c the surgery may not happen as planned. Have the rest of you needed to take antibiotics either before or after Moh's surgery? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I had MOHS on my face for a bcc about 6 weeks or so ago. I did not take any antibiotics either before or after the surgery and my face is healing fine. Good luck to you.

Thanks everybody. Did you have to take antibiotics for 2 weeks? My Cipro RX is for 30 pills, 1 pill 2X a day. Is that how you guys took it? Thanks.

I can't remember if I had to take the antibiotics for more than a week. I probably did, but it was so long ago.

Hi Belle: That's OK. I asked the Dr. today and he told me to take the Cipro for 10 days. I took one so far and feel OK. Tomorrow, I'll start taking one every 12 hrs. The surgery wasn't bad. It's just the lidocaine shots that hurt so bad. My eyes were watering from them. Anyway, I hope that none of us have a skin cancer again for a long time. Take care.
