View Full Version : My LDL was a little high. Cholesterol Question.

My LDL was a little high [as stated by the doctor, the HDL was at a good level], so I've been watching my cholesterol intake. My question is:

1. How much cholesterol is one suggested to have in a day?
2. Is there cholesterol that's actually okay to have? In other words, if you see 40 mg of cholesterol, is there a food item that it is GOOD cholesterol?

I've been paying close attention to the saturated fat and cholesterol columns of nutritional charts for different foods, and even fast food restaurants. With the latter, it is quite difficult finding something that is within reason. Some places have nothing at all.

Anyway, I appreciate whatever input or insights you can add here.

Thanks!! :)

The government recommends a limit of 300 mg on daily dietary cholesterol.
Since the body makes most of its own cholesterol in the liver the dietary amount really isn't too consequential. More emphasis is put on lowering the amount of animal fats and elimination of trans fats in an effort to get the body to produce less cholesterol.
As far as dietary cholesterol, there's no good and bad, just cholesterol. The good and bad come from how the body handles its blood cholesterol

You can find lots more in the HIGH CHOLESTEROL forum down the page.
