View Full Version : Melanoma and MOHS

I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Melanoma in August of 2004 -- had my final excision in October 2004. I have a question...my husband and I are moving, and need to find a new doctor in the area where we are going to be living. My friend's dad who is a surgeon at a top teaching hospital in the area recommended a dermatologist who is a MOHS surgeon. I have an appointment with her mid-Sept (for my next 3-month check-up) -- but I was wondering if anyone had had melanoma removed in a MOHS procedure?

MOHS is generally done on the face so only the absolute necessary amount of tissue is removed and to reduce scarring. A MOHS dermatologist is specially trained to slice and then check immediately for cancer.

When I was having MOHS done on my face, the gentleman next to me was having it done on his nose because of melanoma.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Belle2003 -- your reply does help. If I get another melanoma (God forbid) pehpas the scar won't be as enormous. :)
