View Full Version : green tea and major nausea

I drink green tea a lot, I try to quit coffee for the most part and just drink green tea b/c of the alleged health benefits and the fact that it makes me feel a lot better than coffee ever did. Plus, I just like the taste.

However, Ive noticed lately that whenever I drink green tea on an empty stomach (which is typically 1st thing in the morning as Im too busy to grab breakfast) I get incredible nausea. Just the other day I drank a to-go cup of green tea at work and immediately after I practically felt like I was going to puke. It subsides after maybe a half hour or so.

On a full stomach, or if Ive eaten anything really at all that day, Im fine.

Im wondering why this is so. Its not the caffeine b/c if I drink coffee on empty stomach Im ok. Anyone know why this happens?

nausea with green tea is not uncommon, which is why in preperations where it appears with other thermogenic herbs it also is accompanied by ginger root, which is known for its natural anti-nausea properties. try adding soem grated ginger to your green tea- it also has natural stimulant qualities to get you going in the morning. alternatively don't skip breakfast!!!! very important not to for many reasons!!!

The nausea is probably caused by the tannin in tea. The reaction is more pronounced on an empty stomach. Either drink it with food, or add a bit of milk to the tea.

Yes, the same thing happens to me. I never drink green tea on an empty stomach anymore.. Always wait til after breakfast, and then there are no problems. :)

Many people think that herbal teas are completely good for the health, but they also have a negative effect. Green Tea is also known to increase liver fat.
