My doctor wants me to stop taking Nexium for two weeks before my appointment with him. I am afraid that the gerd symptoms will come back. He wants to make sure I do not have any permanent damage, and if the symptoms come back I more then likely have some damage. I do not want to have all those tests. I have a problem with anxiety when I have to have tests. My question is would it be OK for use an OTC pill if needed only in these next two weeks.

Oh Molly

I am in the same boat as you. I too am having my first GI appt. on the 9th and I am so scared of being scoped. Its not the procedure itself its just the fear of what they will find.

I don't understand why your doc would want you to stop meds before the scope. He can tell from that if there is permanent damage

Thats what I am afraid of also what then will find. This isn't the GI doctor is my family physician. He will send me to the GI doctor I am sure. I had colonscopy 21/2 years ago they didn't find anything he said I could go 10 years. With my insurance I have to have a referral to a specialist. I keep hoping that I will feel fine without Nexium. Thanks for answering. Molly

I have been on it for two weeks 20 mg and I have not really noticed any difference in my symptoms. Some days I feel better and other days its the same crap all over again.

How many mg. are you taking....maybe I need 40 who knows or maybe its just too soon to tell.

I was on Prilosec 20 mg and it stopped working so they put me on the Nexium

I am on 40 mg. once a day. My friend is on 40mg. twice a day. I feel better when I am taking it some foods still give me acid reflux. I try to stay away from them most of the time. I love all the things that give me reflux.

When are you being scoped exactly....

I will be scheduling mine on Monday and am having panic attacks over the thought of it.

I still have to see the family doctor then he will send me to the GI doc and then I will more than likely have to have the scope. I will have panic attacks waiting to have it also. I do not like to being put out. Guess it goes with being a control freak.

I made the decision an hour ago to go back on the Nexium. Life is too short to feel lousy for at least a month if not more. If I do need the scope it won't be until the middle of Nov. I am committed to my job for the first two weeks in Nov. My boss will be on vacation and I have to be there to open the office. I only work three days but when he is away I have to work five days.

I was on Nexium 40mg for a very bad case of reflux. I stopped taking it after a month and now about two months down the track i still havent experienced reflux. I think that if you have been on it for a while you should be alright for a two week break. If your not then maybe it is a good thing because the doctor can prescribe you something stronger for your reflux.
