I'm in my 50s, my new dermatologist prescribed Retin-a micro because I get large freckle brown spots from the sun on my face. She looked at me as said "do you use retin?" I said no, she said "it will help" and then gave me a prescription. I come to read that it is for acne. I don't have acne. Is Retin-a micro used to reduce/remove brown spots? I won't use this until I know. Any help?

According to what I have read - yes - key words being: it will help. RetinA, alphahydroxy acid - all help.
Best thing to reduce those brown spots, apparently, is micro dermabrasion or laser.

Well, if it helps with acne then it probably helps with other skin issues as well otherwise the doctor wouldn't prescribe it. I've heard of Retin-A helping with a variety of skin issues.
