I have a question about Metamucil. My Doctor told me I should take it 2 times a day for two weeks just to get regularity. What exactly does it do to you? It says laxitive on the front.....will this make me go the bathroom out of control or what?

Also I have had pain in my belly the past couple days....To the left of my belly button. Anyone know what this could be?

Hi traci,
Metamucil is a water absorbable fiber supplement bowel regulator. It is psyllium seed husk that swells as it absorbs water. It use to say Bowel Regulator on the container but they changed it several years ago to natural fiber laxative. It is safe to take daily---one of just several laxatives/regulators that is safe. I have been using it for 18 years.

Your GI tract needs fiber to move food that you eat through your system. Our modern diet does not have much fiber because it has been mostly process out. All meat and dairy products contains NO fiber. There is alot of advantages to taking a fiber supplement daily. It keeps you regular and cleans your colon thereby reducing your chances of getting many illnesses including colon cancer which is the number 2 type cancer behind lung cancer.

Taking a water soluble FIBER supplement is just a healthy thing to do for your overall HEALTH.
