Hi,
I am brand-spanking new to this message board, so it's possible that this question has already been asked and answered. But I was just wondering if any other women with IBS also get frequent bladder infections like I do. Since most UTIs are caused by the E-Coli bacteria, which diarrhea is full of, it makes sense that an attack of IBS could lead to an UTI infection.

No matter how thoroughly I clean myself, I have constant UTIs. In fact, I am getting ready to go to the doctor in a few hours because of another one. Has anyone read of any studies that have been done linking the two ailments together?

Thanks!!!

Hi,
Yes I too get frequent UTIs which then set my IBS off, mainly because of the antibiotics...they up set the balance in my bowel and set me off.....But yes I do get frequent UTIs also IBS gets worse near the time of my period too as the hormones give me diarrhea...Hope I was of some help...JanieBxx

YES, before I was diagnosed, I was having chronic UTI's & nobody could figure out why. I read something that shows a correlation between IBS & UTI's after doing an internet search. The reason I was getting UTI's is that my bladder never completely empties, and the bacteria would proliferate. I think there is a correlation to IBS cuz all the muscles used straining made my bladder weak. Also I had slight incontinance.

I went from the Gyno, to the Urologist, to the Gastroenterologist. I just wish I had a HOLISTIC doctor who looks at the WHOLE picture of your health, then all these connections would've been noticed a lot sooner.

I've had more success here on this forum then in a doctors office. They don't know much. you have to educate yourself or they will test you to death and come up with nothing. Scroll around the other topics. you will be surprised that sometimes you find what you feel someone else feels, somewhere else! <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/grad.gif">

Hello All,
I'm a female Gulf War vet. I had explosive diarrhea for 7-1/2 years, intermittently with UTI and upper respiratory infections.

To make a long story short: visit a gastrointerologist to complain about Giardia, a waterborne parasite that afflicts the sickly, or the folks who have taken antibiotics previously. The treatment for such is Metronidazole taken for 7 days. That's pronounced Met-ro-NI-duh-zol. You cannot drink alcoholic beverages with it because you will pass out from liver over-function. And, the doctors won't tell you as much, but you should avoid all sugar because it may cause you to throw up, and ultimately grow vaginal yeast infections.

When you get rid of the Giardia, the rest of your problems will resolve themselves. If you go to an internist, GP, or OB-GYN, you will get zero results. Trust me on this one!
Love you all,
