Okay guys and gals, I need some reassurance here. I have been taking the psyllium capsules daily (three in am and three in pm). At first it helped, but lately I have been constipated again. The frequency is okay, once or twice a day, but it is like rocks, some large some small (like pebbles). It is not unusual for me to see some white mucus in my stool, but today it was this thick, gel like, rust colored "stuff". This has been along with the right sided pain, a pinching like pain, and a little pain in my rectum (not like hem., more like pressure pain). What is this??!! As always, thanks for the support. Janet

Have you been drinking enough water with the capsules. I've heard that water is essential for fiber to work. Also, have you eaten anything different lately? I know I've had some changes because I've been practicing my stuffing recipe. I make the best stuffing, if I do say so myself, however, since it's not something I eat on a regular basis, it's caused some upset. Does this help???

Hi Janet,
It sounds like you are not drinking enough. When you take capsules that may not open until in the intestines, you have to drink more water than normal. Everyone's different and you don't know how fast food/caps travel in you GI tract. My wife takes caps but she live with something to drink in her hand and we know she has a fast transit time. Where as I have a very slow transit time,I don't drink as much and I use powdered Metamucil. So, I know I get enough water with the psyllium. If you are getting constipated taking the caps your're taking---I'll bet you are not drinking enough ---the Fiber King has spoken
