View Full Version : My concern...

Ok, here goes... I'm 20 years old

a while back i noticed, what i thought was, blood on the toilet paper.

i went in to the doctor and had a fecal occult blood test to take home which i just now submitted (oops)

since that time, i have realized that what i thought was blood may have actually been just undigested parts of tomatoes or other food. it seems whenever i eat tomatoes i dont digest parts of them, mainly the skins, but not only the skins.

Ok, now heres where my concern grows...

I have been starting to have strange bowel movements. Let me describe my situation for the past few weeks.

stool starts off somewhat normal, sometimes seemingly like a bunch of hard pieces, about the size of a quarter, combined into one bigger one. Though sometimes it just seems like a normal stool.

however, the stool soon becomes thinner and softer by the end. Sometimes the stool just comes out about the width of my thumb (thin).

usually by the end of my 'session' it becomes hard to finish. usually anything after that is mostly diarehha and thin, small, pieces of stool. sometimes it will burn as well..

one last thing, the other day i noticed mucus with the stool (and possible blood since i saw red in it)

im going crazy here...

i just called a nuse today and her and my doctor dont seem to worry about it... then again, i worry about my health all the time, i always think i have cancer somewhere ;p

Any info? Opinions? Does this sound familiar at all?

...help?

Thanks.

i wouldnt worry too much about it.... i have the same symptoms! here is what i have found:
i am a vegetarian, who eats mostly raw vegetables, and other misc fruits. i also gets pieces (skin) of veggies in my stool, and also sometimes entire pieces of undigested mushrooms! my bowel movements tend to be quick, sometimes thin, sometimes large, depending on what i ate the day before. i found out by the process of elimination that:
1) i dont chew my food too well, chewing more and taking the time helped immensely
2) i learned that certain foods seem to irritate me more then others, such as chickpeas etc.

but alas, i wouldnt worry too much about your symptoms. i took a fecal blood test, and was negative (although i freaked and thought i did have blood in my stool). i am also in my twenties, and am a self professed hypochondriac!

dont worry about it too much, just try and chew your food completely, and see if that helps any.

hello, and i must say i as well am a hypochondriac. I have had all the symptoms you speak of and have had blood tests that are negative for blood in the stool. So many people have told me the more you worry, the worse it is. I have even had panic attacks due to harmless medical symptoms (chest pain, gas bubble which feels like an abnormal heartbeat) I am only 23 and have a very healthy heart, so its not that! It is my mind. Even though i realize this i still can't control it sometimes. This whole summer i have been a wreck in dealing with what i think might be IBS (diarrhea version). I did have an intestinal parasite for a brief time which is completely gone now. However, I think worrying about the parasite and fear of it coming back somehow triggered this onset of symptoms which i speak of in a previous posting on 7-25-00.
It is nice to hear from fellow worriers! Thank you.
