Hi All.
My partner has had this sore on the back of his lower calf for about a year now - the sore appears to have healed by now there are small holes in the affected area that occasionally weep. Usually its seems ok but then every now and again it swells up, and his gland starts to hurt as well. There is no hair growth around the area as well. Doctor's have prescribed antibiotics but it doesn't seem to have done anything in the long run.

Anyone out there know what this is or how we can treat this???

Just a thought could it be skin cancer..He should ask for a biopsy to see if thats what it is..Unhealing weepy sores are a sign of skin cancer

Thanks. That's what i've been suspecting - we've been told it might have to do with his sugar levels, although he's not diabetic. i'm pushing to get a biopsy done.

Try applying Betadine ointment every day on a non stick dressing until healing is complete, and taking oral supplements of zinc and vitamin c (50mg zinc and 500mg of vitamin c per day)

A referal to a dermatologist might be a good idea also, as tropical sores can be extremely stuborn, and need specialist treatment.

Hi
I'm not trying to scare you, but year long weeping holes are nothing to ignore. Yes it also could be from cancer inside the bone. Please get him in for X-ray and other tests, ASAP. Use a different doctor if possible. An orthopedic doc or internist. A specialist.

The draining holes really concern me. I had one teeny weeping hole on my leg that turned out to be osteomyalitis, a serious infection in my bone and all through the surrounding tissue. The bone had to be scraped out and the 12 inch wound left open to heal from the inside out. I was told that there usually are not good results even then, but thankfully mine was healed and they revised the scar and I had no problems since. but I would have lost my leg is I didn't get it taken care of.

An infection in the bone is not touched by even intravenous antibiotics. There are no blood vessels in the bone. He may need surgery to remove a section of tissue or to scrape the bone out. It's best to find out.

Please let us know what is found, and if he is OK. TF

Thanks TF

We're making arrangements to get tests done on his leg at a specialist hospital. There are at least 3 or 4 small holes in his leg and the affected area around his leg is getting wider and much more painful.

I will advise of the results
