View Full Version : Pain near belly button

I have a pain that runs from one side of my abdomen to the other, just above my belly button. The pain is worse at the left hand side and just comes on gradually it seems. I also feel a bit sick and just generally run-down/unwell. I had this pain a week and a half ago and it went away eventually.
In the past I have been diagnosed with heartburn/IBS but it is never this bad and in this area. Taking Buscopan and Maalox doesn't really help and paracetamol helps a little.
The last time I had it I could just about stand up, it was really painful if I wasn't sitting/lying down.
Anyone got any ideas if this is IBS related or something else? I thought it could have even been muscle related, but I didn't do any exercise the last time I had pain.

Hi, I was wondering do you have any blood in your stool or change in bowel habits? Pain near or behind the belly button along with other symptoms can be a sign of bowel cancer (not trying to scare you) and I just want to make sure you don't have the other symptoms to go along with that. It could be the IBS flaring up but I would have it checked out either way so you don't have to continue to suffer with the pain, let us know how it goes. Cathy

Thought i would drag up my last thread to ask another question. last night i had this sudden pain in my abdomen. after about 10mins i massaged my abdomen a bit and this huge gurgle came out and most of the pain went away. could it have been something 'stuck' and i just massaged it along? I still have a bit of pain now, but unsure if this is ibs/anxiety related or something else...
