View Full Version : Question About Temporary Relief

I think I'm suffering a flare up and have made an appointment with a doctor on Monday, and it is now Friday. I'm just wondering if I should take some antacid in the meantime, or is the temporary nature of this treatment not worthwhile, or could it even make the situation worse?

I've been suffering GERD like symptoms for about ten years. A couple of years ago it flared enough for me to see a doctor, and I was prescribed Nexium for about 6 months. It seemed to calm things down, and I noticed no difference when the prescription ran out.

Since then I've still had a tight feeling in my throat and excessive phlegm, but nothing I couldn't get used to. But all of a sudden the tightness in my throat increased - it feels like a clenched fist. It is beyond what I'm willing to put up with.

Anyway, while I still have the chance - should I get some antacid to get me through the weekend? Thanks.

Yes. Can't hurt to use some Tums. Or you can use baking soda.
