Extreme pain in wrist, strange diagnosis

Hi! I'm Derek, 23 years old and work at a computer all day, come home and play guitar/craft a guitar for the rest. Recently I've done a lot of precision sanding that took a while.

I started to notice when I straighten my right elbow, fingers out, and twist so the palm is up, I feel pretty bad pain in the inside (thumb side) of the wrist. (the same pain happens when I just pinch the thumb and fingers and straighten) I also noticed if i massage the base of my bicep near the elbow, I can send a shooting feeling up to that same pain location.

I had no numbness in any of my fingers, but the pain was getting worse, so I took it to an orthopedic specialist. The doctor felt the tendon in my elbow and said that seemed fine and moved my thumb around.

He didn't diagnose any repetitive injury with the median nerve, as I expected him to, but instead said somehow I damaged the lateral antebrachial cutaneous nerve.

From what I've read this is a pretty rare phenomenon usually caused by some extreme form of hyper extension, of which I don't recall having occurred.

Should I seek another opinion? Any suggestions? I really like to soon be able to continue my work.

Hi, Derek! Sorry you're in pain. If I were you I'd go for another opinion. If your doctor took any x-rays or did any other sort of diagnostics, be sure to have them to show your second doctor. Feel better!
