    PT and elbow pain

I'm in PT for a shoulder problem, not an elbow problem. I have a history of tendonitis in my elbow that waxes and wanes but never fully goes away. Some of the PT exercises requires me to hold my arm straight. Bending my elbow after is pretty painful for a few repetitions. How can I avoid the elbow pain?
