    sliced off finger tip

I am hoping someone might be able to offer some advice or experience. I sliced tip of my index finger off three days ago while cutting sweet potato fries. Went to the ER and they applied surgicel to the wound and told me to leave it on for 48 hours and follow up with a plastic surgeon. I saw the surgeon today and he said he hates it when ERs apply that stuff, and has even discussed this with them multiple times, because it's nearly impossible to get off. He told me that it does usually fall off on its own but it can take a while.

I did ask the surgeon if there's any risk of the surgicel fusing to my skin as it heals, and he said he's never seen that happen. But it concerns me because this thing is rock hard on my skin and completely glued to my remaining fingernail. Like I can't pick it with a fingernail, just totally solid. He has my putting Neosporin on it with a bandaid over it to see if that helps soften it, but I'm really concerned about this thing not coming off.

Can anyone relate their experience and peace of mind? Thanks!
