    Re: fractured wrist, plates screws

    Dear gingertea,

    How are you doing now?
    I just saw your message.

One of my wrists was broken from a slip and fall with full body weight on that one wrist. The break was was supported with a plate and screws which worked very well until later on after the bones healed after reporting some discomfort, tests showed that the plate was a little too far onto the joint impacted movement; so the plate and screws were removed. The screw holes healed up nicely.

Since then I have had no further problem.
The first priority is to stabilize the wrist, and after the bone heals, be sure to report any pain or discomfort to your GP. I found that the repairing surgeon wanted to leave the wrist as it was, but a different surgeon saw where the plate was rubbing the wrist joint. It's fine to seek the opinion of other surgeons outside a medical group to be sure you are satisfied with the result, since you have to live with it.

Expect that healing may cause a normal temporary itchy feeling. Let me know how you are doing.
