    Thumb injury

Someone pushed a chair into my outstretched thumb. Initially it hurt in the web between my thumb and index finger but that has gotten better but it still hurts on the top side of my thumb halfway between the 2nd joint and wrist. What structures are located there that could have been injured? There is no bruising. There is not really any swelling there now, there may have been a little in the first couple of days, hard to say.

    Re: Thumb injury

There are all sorts of tendons and muscles in this area...you could have bruised a mucle (which takes a few weeks to heal) or torn a tendon, which cannot be identified without a MRI- it will not heal...
You could have broken one of the delicate bones (Xray would show this)- there are hundreds of bones in our hands..

The only way to know for sure is to see a hand specialist (usually found in an orthopedic doctors office) or give it another month and see if it heals on its own.
