    Mystery pain in finger joints

Since last winter, I've been having pain in finger joints that has been getting worse. It started in the top joint (the one just under the fingernail) of my left pinky. A few months later, I started having pain the top joint of the left middle finger. Now I also have pain in the middle joint of the left pinky. These areas hurt most when I close my fingers all the way, and especially if I press on them. Lifting things can be painful too. Also, bumping the affected areas against something hurts as well. There's no pain when I'm not doing anything.

I've been to my doctor about it and a blood test was done for Rheumatoid Factor, which turned out negative. An Xray was also done which showed nothing. I've tried taking Ibuprofen with 1 pill 3 times a day and it didn't help, so I increased to 2 pills just as often with no success. Last night, I held an ice pack against my pinky for at least a half hour while watching TV and it didn't help at all.

The only thing I can think of to do now beyond googling for answers (all of which I've now tried) is to ask for advice here. I'm out of ideas.

    Hi StayFit42,

I know you posted this some months ago. Are you still feeling pain in your finger joints? I would bet it could be arthritis. I would get a second opinion on this just to ease your mind. Some doctors just want to rush us out of their office and not give us time to ask questions. Keep us updated on this. I am curious to know how you are doing
