Thumb Splints/support: How long does it take to get better?

Thanks for the knowledgeable response to my issue re:Thumb Splints/Support:
I went to the ortho/hand surgeon and he confirmed I had 'thumb sprain' and offered 'thumb splints' and 'rest' for its recovery.
Now, in about three weeks on it, my thumb-pain getting to subside, but it's a slight of pain.
Dr. told me to re-visit if there is still some pain even after mid-October which is about 6-weeks further down the road.
    My question is:
How long 'thumb-sprain' gets better? If I'd go back to the ortho. dr., he more likely recommend 'physical therapy' on my sprained thumb?

Thanks for any insights on this regard in advance.

Depends on the injury. Definitely do the physio.
