    Angry Wrist and base of thumb issues

    Hi, I have had wrist pain and pain at the base of the thumb by the wrist. I also have decreased strength and ROM. I can't spread my fingers open to the same degree I can with my other hand. I have difficulty with fine motor activities especially buttoning. I had a MRI and these were some of the findings:
    Osseous structures: Bone marrow edema is present in the proximal ulnar aspect of the lunate with cartilage loss. The lunate has an atypical configuration articulating with the proximal aspects of the hemate. Mild degenerative chest are present at the first carpometacarpel joint.
    Tendons: Thickening of teh abductor pollicus longus tendon indicating presence of tendinosis. Mild tenosynovitis of the extensor carpi ulnaris tendon.
    Ligaments: A central performation is present through the radial aspect of the triangle fibrocartilage with associated degeneration. Mild degenerative changes are present at the distal radiolulnar joint.
    Not sure what this all means other than there seems to be a reason for my pain.
    Now I need to find a hand specialist to figure this out.
    If anyone has any suggestions or thoughts...feel free to forward them.
    Thanks ;{

    Re: Wrist and base of thumb issues

    I have been wearing a thumb stabilizing wrist splint and the wrist and thumb are getting better. I can now button, zipper and brush my teeth without pain. THe specialist said that the cartilage loss was due to osteoarthritis. That in turn caused the other issues. I am taking it one step at a time and hoping the rest of the body doesn't follow with cartilage loss. Not sure what else I can do to prevent more deterioration. Too young for that.
