Knee arthritis - Will this improve?
I am 50 years old. I have had arthritis in my right knee for a few years. It would flare up mildly on occasion but nothing severe.
I am very active and use a run / walk strategy to do long distances.
I trained most of 2020 for a virtual marathon (would have been my 2nd). I was doing great and had completed all of the training when I had a major flare up. I am attributing it moving some heavy furniture.
I saw my orthopedist and he confirmed that nothing is torn. It is arthritis. He gave me mobic and he did a gel injection (which I have had success with before). He said I can walk but no running until I am pain free.
It is three months later. It is better but not 100%. It stiffens up any time I sit. I have to limp to get started and then I am ok to walk. Sleeping is awful. It stiffens up and then I can't get comfortable.
The orthopedist said it will take time. He said a knee replacement is in my future but many years off yet.
Any advise? Is this going to get any better?
