recently diagnosed

I was recently diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both knees. I'm 40 years old, a registered nurse of 19 years, and have a list of other medical problems that is too long to go into. At my first appointment, my rheumatologis injected my knee with Keneject and lidocaine. It helped for about a week (during which I was in bed with pyelonephritis and sepsis...) so I'm not sure if it was the rest, or the injection that helped. I also had a possible reaction to the injection (hard to tell with the other infection going on). Anybody had any experience with the injections, or Synvisc (which is the next option)....

Re: recently diagnosed

dizzytex, you might want to try a combination of Glucosamine/Chondroitin

along with about three capsules of Cod Liver Oil a day.

I have been taking G/C for my left knee since '96, and was recently

diagnosed as needing a right hip replacement. I doubled my G/C to about

3gm./day of glucosamine, and managed to loose 15 pounds. No more pain in

the right hip, no more ibuprophen or tylenol, and no longer need the cane,

and the injured left knee is doing quite well.

Have no idea how long I can get away with this, but it sure beats hip

replacement surgery.

Re: recently diagnosed

Synvisc, if I'm correct is what I had one of my knees treated with. It's hard to remember anymore but I believe it was a three treatment procedure, each treatment had the internal knee fluids removed and the Synvisc reinserted.. I had been told by my Ortho- that the knee was beyond any repairs but the pain clinic insisted I try the procedure and I did.
Results were mixed, the actual pain may have been relieved some but the real help if any was the way the Synvisc lubricated the joint.
That made the whole knee more comfortable. I called it the grease job. :-)
Good luck
PS: Nancy Lopez the LPGA golfer has a brochure out recommending this product.
