Exclamation Asthma attack this AM

Hello all

This may sound like a bizarre question but has been caught off-guard by an asthma attack? I know that you're suppose to recognize your "triggers" and symptoms in order to prevent an attack but this morning one just hit me out of nowhere.

I got up and had my breakfast and then started to help my fiance put away all the goods we brought back from the continent last night. (We got home late last night and went straight to bed).

Anyway, I ran upstairs, came back down and just started coughing and couldn't stop. I felt my chest tightening and the wheezing getting worse. Luckily my fiance was quick and brought my spacer to me so I could get my meds in me easier. I was under control so that horrible panic never set in.

This attack seemed to come from nowhere and I was wondering if this ever happens to anybodu else.

Take care everybody! Breathe easy!

Cheers,

Nicola

it happens when your asthma is not being controlled by well "control" meds adequately....according to the ALA - asthmatics should be able to live normal lives and not worry about avioding triggers...they should expect nothing less. I totally agree with them.

<rant warning>
Attacks like you described happened to me for years - i feel so stupid about not taking care of it sooner all the years i'd wasted settling for being just ok most of the time and letting asthma dictate what i could and not do - of course the gp doc did not help with the "just take your albuterol and don't worry about it. "
<end rant>

good luck to you , i'd recommend again getting the peak flow meter and seeing a pulmonary doc.

Let me know how you are doing, i'm here.

Cyn

Hey Cyn,

Thx so much for replying. I'm actually feeling a lot better at the moment. I was at the gym last night and didn't have too many problems.

Take care and thx again!

Yeah, I have a feeling attacks like that happen to some people. The doctors know the theory of it. Honestly, an element of attack is still brought on for sometimes no reason whatsoever, and a muscle contraction is hardly something a controller med can take care of.

Sometimes these things just happen -- I know it's not what the drs say but sometimes no matter how out of control you are, things just happen.
