I have the symptoms you listed above plus a post nasal drip. My problem is allergies. Any chance that's your problem too?

I *do* know that when I get a horrid postnasal drip it's like my throat gets chapped -- also, it's like when trying to clear my nose, I create enough negative pressure within my pharynx to cause a sort of weird painful hickey? Has the Nasonex helped your nose at all?

Yes...I do have alot of allergies...Ive had a ton since i was a little kid..The pain i feel is in my lower neck around the gland area's, and sometimes just above the glands just below my jaw line. I use to get allergy shots twice a week, but i stopped them when i was 16 or so...Did you ever find a cure for your symptoms?

I dont have a postnasal drip..The Nasonex the doc gave me is for my stuffed sinus...Only one sinus is stuffed at a time, and it switches sides throughout the day. Its not so stuffed that i cant breathe out the one side, but it is noticable when trying to breathe in or out of that nasel...

I agree with the suggestion of post nasal drip.

Have you ever tried to do nasal lavage (wash, irrigation..)?

My doctor suggested it to me, but sucking salt water from a cup by nose isn't the nicest experience. It does work, tho.

I have been using Hydra Sense nasal irrigation that I purchase from Walmart. It's expensive, but has worked.

I have since had a great suggestion. In one cup warm water and a half tsp salt, use a baby's soft bulb syringe to suck in the water and use it to irrigate.
The head has to be tilted in the opposite direction for the nostril that you're irrigating. For example, lean your head over to the left to do the right nostril, etc.

I've had success with this. If you use too much salt, that will dry out the passages too much and cause yet another problem.

I also use Sudafed to keep passages open (and it helps with the positional vertigo, BPPV, that I have.

I used Nasonex for a year (Rhinocort before that), and ended up with the nastiest sinus infection. What's with the smell of that stuff, anyway?
I've quit using them....I do think that they're overrated since they can cause so many other problems. But, that's my opinion based on years of use. I've been over a year free of them, and my nose is much better. Go figure..

At least the nasal lavage is safe, it works, and you can use it when you need.

Best to you,

It's all a matter of perspective!

i don't know about anyone else, but i'm on nasonex, and i always got sick of being prescribe nasal sprays, cause i thought they were unneccessary, and that i just needed to keep my passages hydrated with a saline solution...

my nose bleeds, just spotting, and my passages were always swollen (but not stuffed), so i thought it was the dryness that caused the irritation (by the way, these probs have gotten significantly worse since i had a nasogastric feeding tube in for three monthes two years ago)...

i tried the nasonex, cause i was dreadful ill acouple of monthes ago, and unlike the saline, it stopped the bleeding in my nose...also, i have always complained of TERRIBLE sinus headaches, and if i stop taking my nasonex for 3 days (like i did this week), i get a TERRIBLE headache, that ibuprofen only begins to take away...weird, huh???

the smell...your body gets used to it...i forgot about does taste weird if it gets in the back of your throat, but, like i said, i've only been on it a couple of months, and it is just like water now, i can't taste anything anymore...guess you have to acquire tolerance for with some many other meds! good luck
