Post DO you take anything for your chronic cough?

Ok with my asthma/gerd/anxiety I have a very bad chronic PCP and Pulm docs always try to give me something so its not as bad just nothing seems to work. The lastest thing was Lortuss DM but my insurance wouldnt; approve it so I wasnt able to get it right now. Some days I cough til I feel like I am gonna pass out or throw up and it just wears me out. (doc said it can) I mean I just don;t see how all that coughing is good for my body and I would think there is SOMETHING out there that I can take or be done. Any advice or suggestions...

Re: DO you take anything for your chronic cough?

you sound like me last year. When your asthma is controlled, the coughing will stop. at night, I used to take Benadryl to help me sleep & calm the allergy induced cough. That or if things were really bad, Robutussin w/ codeine at night. During the day I could take Tessalon perles which helped considerably for the cough. Also was taking Advair 500/50 & Singulair daily, along with Clarinex in the mornings & Flonase in the mornings. If you could take it before you go to bed that would be best so you don't get post nasal drip at night which aggravates a cough. I couldn't do it.. my sinuses hurt when I wake up hehe. Running a warm humidifier in my room REALLY helped loosen up my cough. Honestly, in the end it appeared to have been a stint of chronic bronchitis b/c I had been coughing constantly for months & finally the right antibiotic kicked it. I don't find albuterol helps. well hope you find some relief

Mucinex during the day - which is just guifanesin and thins the mucus. You don't want to take suppressant during the day unless you have to because coughing is actually a good thing. I take Tussonex at night - it's got hydrocodone or somethign in it.

Re: DO you take anything for your chronic cough?

I've had that cough you are describing for over a month now. After the doctor tried so many things, my pulmonologist gave me hydromet and increased the aciphex to twice a day. My cough is controlled now and my voice came back. I do suffer from asthma, gastro paresis, GERD, Hiatal Hernia and migraine headaches.
I also use for asthma: Advair 500/50, DuoNeb and albuterol. I was recently on prednisone.
I hope you find some relief soon. I know what you are going through.
God Bless!
