    Question Question about Asthma Attacks

    Hey all,
I am looking for others who experience the same thing that I do, or have more information about asthma then me. I was diagnosed about a year or so ago with asthma, but it has taken sometime to get my asthma under control. Partly, because I am a horrible medicine taker, so when I was feeling well, I would usually skip out on taking my preventative inhaler (Advair 250/50). I have definitely gotten better at remembering to take my medicine and so I haven't had a flare-up in awhile (knock wood). Even though I was given an asthma diagnosis, there is always a little voice in my head thinking it is not. It could just be I am still in denial, but for the sake of my post, we will say that the diagnosis is right. Can anyone on here share how their attacks usually start? I did read the thread on early warning signs, and found it pretty helpful. I am either oblivious to those warning signs, or I just don't have very many of them before an attack. When my asthma flares up, it usually starts with my breathing getting very rapid, my chest is tight, and every once in awhile I will cough. I hardly ever have wheezing, except on a few occasions when I wasn't very quick with the rescue inhaler. My attacks are pretty mild, but are much worse if I go for a jog outdoors, but even then I feel short of breath with rapid breathing almost every time, and I will cough a lot during exercise. Any experiences y'all could share would be greatly appreciated. Also, I am going to be moving soon to an area that is more humid, but just has hot as Las Vegas. Since I have been primarily in a dry desert environment since my diagnosis, I am a little concerned on how the humidity will effect me, changes in weather is a trigger for me. Thanks again to anyone who responds!

Just checking - do you premedicate before jogging?

Yes, I do premedicate before jogging. I usually do two puffs of ventolin one minute apart about 15-20 mins before my workout. It does work, but I sometimes still struggle a little bit. I just have days where no matter what I do, running is just not going to happen!

WE all have that happen. Just walk instead of running. That's what I do.

    Re: Question about Asthma Attacks

That is usually what I do...I still have questions in which the way I know an attack is starting. I usually can't tell, until it is too late! I read the post on here about early warning signs as well. I was wondering if anyone else's attacks were like mine. They are fairly mild, but they are asthma attacks nonetheless! Thanks for any responses!

    Re: Question about Asthma Attacks

Well, I have trouble when I dance but I don't use my inhaler. I just try to regulate my breathing as if I'm running. And after a bit, it settles down and I'm fine. Maybe some breathing control exercises would be helpful?
