surgery and speech

My child has autism and apraxia. She had her tonsils and adenoids removed and now it sounds like she is talking and someone is holding her nose while she is talking and her sounds arent coming out as well. I am not sure if anyone on here has a child who had this type of surgery and their speech got worse afterwards. I hope this resolves as time goes on cause we were on the right path with her speech and now i am worried.

Re: surgery and speech

That is odd. We had the opposite outcome. My son was barely talking before he had his tonsils out and now he is saying parts of tons of words. We have also noticed that his color is better, he has better eye contact, he is more alert and engaging. He is also a much better eater now. (My son refused to drink after his surgery and we ended up back in the hospital with an IV for fluids for 4 days. That was quite an ordeal!!)

Hopefully your daughters setbacks are just temporary. Good luck.
