Friend is in need
I have a friend 70, male, active and overall healthy...

Several years ago he developed Vitiligo and looking back he said that he has had arthritis like pain in the past just not very long or intense.

Recently he was diagnosed with Hi blood sugar and changed his eating to fix it - blood sugar went ape and then arthritis and muscle pain hit him like a ton of bricks. They now have him on Met but he dose not know if that has worked yet.

Rheumo Doc has diagnosed him with a type of arthritis (will get name when I can) but ALL of this together makes me wonder about auto immune stuff. His son has done some online reading about AI disorders and many seem to include his ailments/symptoms. One article even said a little insulin was their fix.

Anyone out there got any ideas on what or where he could look/ask for info?

thnx - ish

Re: Friend is in need
Many Autoimmune disorders share similar symptoms and one, Lupus, is called the great imitator because symptoms are so general. Of all the arthritises, osteoarthritis is the most common at your friend's age and it would not be considered an autoimmune disease. There are over 100 different types of arthritis, however, and knowing which type might point you in a direction with local groups dedicated to that particular form. The danger of internet searching is that there is a lot of less than reputable sites out there with bad or wrong information, or worse yet, dangerous information. Sometimes the information is out of date, or only focuses on worst case scenarios. Many sites claim to have "cures" that only serve to "cure" the owners of said websites lack of money. Always check your sources and even then, be aware that not everything on the internet is true, helpful, or applicable to your friend's particular situation. There ARE helpful, reputable websites, such as this one, nonetheless. Did you have a specific question?
