The LDH, ALT and AST are liver enzymes. Aldolase and CK are muscle enzymes. You are doing fine posting labs with reference range in parentheses. I would just be sure if you get a second rheum opinion, to take all these labs with you, so as not to require repeats unless necessary, since blood draws for an 8 y.o. are no fun. Do you see a urine test result? Any abnormalities on that? I would also be careful not to act panicked about this in front of her. It should be fine to treat her joint pains with Ibuprofen when needed to make her more comfortable. Hot baths can help too.

Re: 8 yr female??? What should I expect?

Was there a protein reading on the urine? In several weeks, let's hope she is better and over this! I know how hard it is to see your child not feeling well, not knowing what for sure is wrong, and the prospect of waiting to find out is more than unnerving! Some illnesses just do not declare themselves very clearly especially at the beginning. Those involving the immune system are notoriously difficult, and it does seem your Drs have done a good job of evaluating, but there are no clear answers at this point. Sometimes the answers come with time, sometimes whatever it is just goes away, but in the meantime it is uncomfortable for everyone. Try to take one day at a time, and keep in mind there are no signs of anything terrible like cancer or a life threatening illness going on. BTW, was an RA factor done, and an anti-CCP on her blood done? Those are tests for rheumatoid arthritis, and I don't remember seeing those. Everything that can be ruled OUT is of help as it narrows the list of possibilities. Keep us posted on any developments!

RA factor could be called rheumatoid factor or RF. CCP is anti-citrullinated protein antibodies and is often positive earlier than RA factor in rheumatoid arthritis.

It seems the ph and creatine are on the higher level, I am floored that there was no RA screening done.

I would think they would want to do RA testing on next round unless this all resolves. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis often doesn't show a positive RA factor, which makes it frustrating too. It would be nice if all these tests were more cut and dried and predictable. Let us know what transpires.

It seems they do not do an ra or rf test on children. Still waiting. My daughter has an appointment in 5 weeks. Just wondering if anyone else has any input. Thank you for all the response.

Re: 8 yr female??? What should I expect?

I'm searching for advice and experience, I have not been able to find any support groups or find a highly recommend Peds rheumy in my area. We are waiting to be seen by another doc for a second opinion. Please send me any information or suggestions.

Well, you might consider taking her to the Mayo clinic in Rochester. It seems reasonable given it is in your state and they usually complete their work-up in one week. Perhaps she could get in during spring break. They certainly could get to the bottom of this quickly, and put all the anxiety to rest.

Has your daughter ever had tick bites? Any testing for Lyme disease? Or has she had recurrent strep throat? There is a blood test also for rheumatic fever which is caused by an immune reaction to strep infection. I think no stone should be left unturned.

She has been tested for lymes and strep test both negative. WE do have a mayo appointment scheduled for about a month out.
