    First epidural

Hello, I just had my first lumbar (L5 S1) epidural. How long will it take to see any improvement? I need pain relief soon. Thank you

    Re: First epidural

I think they say it can take up to a week to get some response to the ESI, but often occurs within the first 72 hours. Can't say from experience as I never had any luck with injections.

    Re: First epidural

I had ESI about three weeks ago. I was told results vary but after 4 or 5 days, I could tell it was helping and I believe it still is. My pain levels seemed slightly elevated for the first 48 hours though, but I probably should have been resting more. I'm having to seek further treatment, but it did take my pain down by about half. I know someone who had ESI years ago and avoided surgery all together. Good luck to you!!
