Lumbar pain associated with Hip Strain?

I have recently developed a strain to my quadratus femoris muscle in my hip. I have never had hip issues, but have had a lot of damage in my lumbar spine. Any relationship?

Re: Lumbar pain associated with Hip Strain?

Certainly a possibility! The Quadratus femoris muscle is innervated by the nerve that is formed from the anterior divisions of the L4, L5 and S1 nerve roots. This nerve also provides an articulate branch to the hip joint.

I donít know if your lumbar issues are of the lower lumbar spine...but, if so, there are often issues of structural alignment, the formation of focal adhesions, etc. that result in certain muscles and soft tissue becoming strained/pulled, over-worked, etc. This is common with the piriformis muscle which is adjacent to the quadratus muscle. This is fairly common after a lumbar fusion but can occur from compensation from any type of lumbar injury.

For a year after I had a lumbar fusion I had terrible hip pain that kept me from being able to walk much. The pain was intense. I was beginning to think it wasnít my spine at all but that I was developing a hip issue...but it turned out to be SI joints and the muscles in the buttocks like the piriformis and the quadratus femoris, etc.

Is it possible that you have hip bursitis? Suggesting it because that's my recent diagnosis....after 2 years of hell symptoms, even though I do have chronic lower back issues.
