    Microdiscectomy post-op ankle weakness/instability

In April 2018 I had a microdiscectomy on my L5/S1 for my severe chronic sciatica. When I came out of surgery my sciatic pain was gone, however, as I started my recovery I noticed something very strange - I had lost the ability to push off on my left foot. I immediately brought this up to my surgeon during my post-op appointments, he said "nerves take a long time to heal, it will get better with PT." Well, it never got better. For four years I've brought this up to every doctor, PT, chiropractor, OT and specialist that I've seen and they all look at me dumbfounded. I'm just curious, has anyone else had this same thing happen to them post-surgery?

My issue has never gotten better in four years. Before surgery I was extremely active and very aware of my body - I danced for 15 years and played tennis for 10 years. Now, I can't go up on my tip-toes on my left side, I can't jump, I can't run, I can't push off on my left side, I can't balance. All I've heard from the medical community is, well, when we test you, your muscles have strength, you physically can do the motions, but we have no idea why you can't support your body weight on that side.
