Unhappy Coughed and now lots of pain... *adult issues*

Thursday night I coughed while sitting in a chair and hurt my back. It felt as if I had a herniated disk again. Now, it feels more like muscle pain, but today in the shower, I noticed my scrotum is swollen (and to the base of the penis), and my testicles are not very sensitive at all, whereas they used to be. They are just there. I am also sick with a bad cold. No groin pain, just lower back pain, and muscle cramps in my back.

I don't think it's a disk problem, hopefully just a pulled muscle. But, why would my scrotum be swollen? I'm kinda worried, as there also seems to be something else in there. They are really saggy as well.

Is it a hernia, or just a pulled muscle along with the cold making my glands down there swollen?

I would be in touch with your GP or back doc's office asap and make sure you describe what you're experiencing as clearly and completely as possible. Needless to say, none of us have any idea second-hand. It probably could be lots of things, including some you mention. A hernia can become as serious as a serious disk situation, and neither one can be ruled out until someone examines you directly. Please don't hesitate to get it checked out.

Hi There,

From my physiology texts there are diagrams that show what nerves service different sections of the body. The area which affects the groin is L1 and S3. If you were experiencing any loss of sensation in your groin it could be linked to an issue with these nerves. Does this sound like any of the areas where you have disc herniation of nerve issues?

See a doctor ASAP

PC**Let us know how things have turned out for you. In my own case, I had hernia surgery a year and a half ago, and it turned out that some of the symptoms I was having were probably generated by upper lumbar discs. I had a "real" hernia as well, but it was probably not what generated my problems. These things are tricky, which is why it is so important to get it checked out the by the best doc you can find.
